Rubem Valentim was born in Salvador, Bahia (1922-1991). Devotes himself to painting in 1948. In 1957 he goes to Rio de Janeiro. In 1962 won the Travel Award for Europe at the National Salon of Modern Art. Goes to England, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal and Italy, residing in Rome from 1964 to 1966, when he returns. Participates in the Venice Biennale and the Bienal de São Paulo (1955-1998; Acquisition Award in 1967 and in 1973; Special Room in 1998). The works exhibited at this edition of the International Biennial of Curitiba are badged themed with references to African-Brazilian symbols.
