Tunga was born in Palmares, in Pernambuco, but lives in Rio de Janeiro. He has had works exhibited in New York and Paris, as well received the Brasilia de Artes Plásticas Award, in 1990, and Mario Pedrosa of the Brazilian Association of Art Critics Award – ABCA, in 1991, for his work “Preliminares do Palíndromo Incesto”. Tunga has a career marked by a personal construction that uses elements, signs and concepts. This repertoire allows a multitude of poetic and visual developments and moves fluidly between almost all artistic media: installations and sculptures are born of designs, which can turn into paintings, texts or even performances.
