Paulo Whitaker

São Paulo, Brazil, 1958; Lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. Researching for more than two decades the language of painting, Paulo Whitaker constructs a visual vocabulary that dispenses narratives or meanings. What is claimed is the autonomous space of composition and its ability to activate our memory. This self-reference is evident when the artist chooses a not too extensive amount of forms, colors and motifs that migrate from one work to another, assuming various arrangements. There is something of the idea of sedimentation in his drawings and paintings, where overlapping layers revealed by the use of stencils, producing the play of the surface and of the depth and resulting a practice that constantly resurfaces.
