Indian art museum
The Museum of Indigenous Art – MAI opened its doors in its own headquarters in the first half of 2016, in the neighborhood Água Verde. It is the first private museum in Brazil dedicated exclusively to the artistic production of Brazilian natives, and has one of the largest collections in the world in this area. There are about 700 pieces divided between feather art, pottery, baskets, musical instruments, ritualistic masks and utilitarian objects.
The MAI was born in Clevelândia (PR), in 2009, with the purpose of recovering and preserving the Brazilian indigenous culture. It is the fruit of seventeen years of work of Julianna Podolan Martins in expeditions to the most diverse ethnicities, contemplating the cultural diversity of the main towns of the national territory. Curated by Anna Itália Paraná Mariano, the museum details the origin of the pieces and the cultural traditions of the most diverse ethnic groups.
